Cozy Evenings of Chocolate and Artichokes

As the temperature dropped this past week, Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks hosted a few cozy evenings featuring interesting conversations with special guests.

On Thursday, November 18, Deborah Cadbury joined us for a Six O'Clock Salon to discuss her latest book, Chocolate Wars. Deborah, renowned for her work as a writer and documentary producer, shared the history and politics of the rise in popularity of chocolate from the Victorian days to the present. Guests were treated to a selection of three varieties of decadent hot chocolate and a bountiful bowl of artisan chocolates from Chocolate Arts.

On Friday, November 19, Chef David Tanis of Chez Panisse, dropped by Books to Cooks for an up close and personal chat. In conversation with Barbara-jo, David talked about some of his favourite recipes in his second book, Heart of the Artichoke. He also shared some of his culinary adventures in Paris, where he spends part of the year. Guests enjoyed a deliciously simple smoked chicken salad and fragrant chicken broth and finished the evening with a tasting of a simple sesame studded peanut candy.
