What's Cooking at Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks this November

Join us in our cosy shop for events that are sure to inspire you in the kitchen!

Thursday, November 6, 6 p.m.

Join us this evening for a chat and book signing with Randy Shore, author of "The Green Man" column in the Vancouver Sun. We are celebrating the recent publication of Randy's first book, Grow What You Eat, Eat What You Grow. This cookbook also offers gardening instructions, tips for preserving the harvest and information on eating and living sustainably.

Sunday, November 9, 5 p.m.

Rachel Saunders is the owner and founder of Blue Chair Fruit Company and the author of the James Beard Award-nominated Blue Chair Jam Cookbook. Now she has written Blue Chair Cooks with Jam & Marmalade, a book that focuses on using your homemade preserves to make other dishes.

Today Rachel joins us for a Sunday Social Supper. She will demonstrate one of her recipes for preserves and while it simmers, we will enjoy a supper devised from her new book. For more information about our event, click here.

Saturday, November 29, 11:00 a.m.

Every cook needs to know how to chop and carve, slice and dice, fillet and bone. And today you will have the opportunity to learn from our resident chef, Glenys Morgan.

She will cover a few of the essential knife skills this morning in a repeat of September's popular Saturday morning class. She will also demonstrate how to sharpen your knives using a Chantry Knife Sharpener. For more information about our event, click here.

*This event is hands-on, please bring your favourite knife to practice your skills.

A Few Gift Ideas:

 Barbara-Jo's Citron Book Balm

This hand creme works wonders for hands made dry by reading real books and spending time in the kitchen. Treat your hands (or those of one you love) to this luxurious creme, developed especially for Barbara-Jo's by our friends at OptaDerm.

 Sterling Silver Sardine Pins

These little darlings were created by local artist, Robert Chaplin to celebrate this Autumn's release of the revised edition of Tin Fish Gourmet. Presented on a bookmark (either on a mermaid's plate or a chef's fishing line) illustrated by another local artist, Roxanna Bikadoroff, they make a great gift for posting.

 King George Christmas Pudding

No time for "Stir-up Sunday" this year? No problem! We have a limited supply of perfect puddings, pre-made for you by The Art of Pudding. Now all you need to remember is the hard sauce! (The recipe is included on the package too.)
