Two of our Favourite Autumn Activities: Cooking and Reading

Reading-on-a-train.jpg

As the weather turns crisp, we begin to spend more time indoors, finding ourselves rediscovering a love of cooking at home and quiet hours spent with a good book.

Join us for two events to celebrate a new season of eating and reading together.

Lynn Crawford at Forage Restaurant

Lynn Crawford comes to us with another book, this time featuring recipes she likes to cook at home.  I am very tempted to try many of these trendy and retro recipes myself; our Lynn is obviously influenced by the best from eras past and present.

We are very pleased to pair Lynn with Forage, a new-ish eatery in town, one that relishes the cooking traditions of the past and offers a casual and amiable atmosphere for their guests.

On Wednesday, October 16th, we will welcome Lynn to Forage Restaurant at the Listel Hotel on Robson Street.  The time for this reception is 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  The cost will be $75, which includes refreshments and a personalized copy of Lynn Crawford Cooks at Home.

If you are unable to join us this evening, Trail Appliances is hosting a cooking demonstration (http://lynncrawford.eventbrite.ca/) on October 17 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Call 604-434-8711 for more information or to purchase tickets for this event.

Barjo's New “Novel” Book Club

This November we launch a new book club, designed to enhance the pleasure of reading. The idea is this: we choose a novel, send it to you by mail to be read before the event, then host an evening of refreshments and discussion lead by the author themselves.

Our first gathering will be with local author Mary Novik, discussing her new work, Muse. This historical adventure is the story of Solange Le Blanc, the intriguing woman who inspired Petrarch’s sublime love poetry and was mistress/confidante to Pope Clement IV.

The event will be in the shop on Thursday, November 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The cost of $49 includes a copy of Muse, posted to you, refreshments and an engaging discussion with Mary Novik.

We will be hosting another gathering of Barjo's New Book Club on November 27th with Roberta Rich and her book The Harem Midwife.
