A Visit From the Okanagan

During a recent session of Sunday Suppers, lucky guests were treated to a visit from some of the best food and wine purveyors the Okanagan has to offer. It was all courtesy of Okanagan-based food and wine writer Jennifer Schell who brought along a few of her friends to celebrate the release of her new book, The Butcher, the Baker, the Wine and Cheese Maker.   A lavishly illustrated work that brings much-deserved attention to the culinary offerings of the place she calls home.

"I really wanted to do this book," said Jennifer. "And then I discovered that they were all my friends." Happy contributors to the evening included chef Matt Batey of Mission Hill Winery who prepared a meal based on the delicious offerings of the book's various contributors. On hand to talk about what they do. The Butcher (Richard Yntema of North Okanagan Game Meats) the Baker (Monika Walker of Okanagan Grocery-Artisan Breads) the Wine Maker (Gavin Miller of Upper Bench Winery) and the Cheese Maker (Shana Miller of Upper Bench Creamery).

The commitment to their craft shone through in a menu that included BC Spot Prawn Ceviche, Wild Boar Stew with Pappardelle and Quince and Chocolate Tarts. There was also a fine selection of wines, cheeses and a lovely offering of bread. More than enough to make anyone hungry for a visit to the Okanagan.
