James Barber is remembered by many as the gentle bon vivant who invited us in for a nice cup of ginger tea, a chat and a delicious meal. On Sunday, September 23 we celebrated James' memory with a fundraiser book sale of over 1000 cookbooks from his personal book collection. As guests nibbled on ginger cookies and sipped on ginger tea and gingerteani's, they perused the collection and scooped up treasures for their own epicurean libraries.

Over $3500 was raised for one of James' favourite charities, Providence Farm. Based in the Cowichan Valley, Providence Farm provides innovative programs in Horticultural Therapy and vocational training to restore the spirit and skills of those with physical, mental and emotional challenges.



Guests shared many fond memories of the Urban Peasant and we are delighted that his legacy will live on in the libraries of many of his fans.
