WELCOME

I am excited to share my “Maison des Mots” in La Charite sur Loire. Beautifully nestled on the Loire River in the centre of France at the bottom of Burgundy. Maison des Mots is the perfect place to explore the glorious countryside, and experience the French way of life – my way of living and eating in a leisurely fashion.

LE PROPERTY

Maison des Mots is a comfortable home with three floors. I have spent the last two years renovating this venerable house which was partially renovated 60 years ago and 150 years ago before that. I am delighted to report I have managed to keep the history and charm of the house intact while modernizing the space adding my personal design touches. And yes, the beds are new and top notch.

The ground floor has a salon, a dining room, toilette, kitchen and Librarie Gourmand. The kitchen and library open to the tranquil private courtyard. The stairs from the courtyard lead you up to my treasured garden. The second floor has three guest rooms, a salon/library, and a laundry room. Chambre One has a double bed and shower room. Chambre Two has a Queen bed and bath with hand -held shower. Chambre Three has a double bed, a shower, and an anteroom with a single bed which doubles as a day bed for reading and lounging.

The room prices are the same. A price for single folk, and a price for couples.

The third floor is my apartment.

Option number one:

Each morning you rise as you wish, though a mighty good breakfast will be served from 8:00 am – 9:00 am. Each evening from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm is the Apero (a lively French version of the cocktail hour) On Saturday morning after breakfast, we walk down to the Farmer’s Market, shop for our lunch, then as is a Saturday custom after the market, enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes. We then walk back to the house to cook lunch together and relax for a few hours with fine wines and our meal.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – BREAKFAST.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday – APERO.

On Tuesday night, we gather in the kitchen around 4:30 pm and cook our evening meal together. Then we eat it!

Lunch and dinner are four courses, beginning with an appertif, and two glasses of wine with the meal. You are welcome to bring your own wine to the table to carry on coiffing, or alternatively, I would be happy to sell you wine from my personal cellar.

Breakfast is a deluxe continental: Fruit, Viennoiserie, Toast, Yogurt, Eggs, Cheese, Cappucino.

Apero is the drinking hour with Libation and Delicious Lite Fare.

PRICE: 1000 euros per person. For a couple: 1800 euros. Extra nights are 115 euro per person, 190 per couple and include breakfast.

Option number two:

Same as above with these added excursions:

Sunday lunch in Sancerre, at one of three fine restaurants, followed by an exceptional Wine Tour of Sancerre.

Monday: A country drive to Apremont, a beautiful village noted for its gardens. Lunch in a local restaurant will follow.

Tuesday: Loire Boat Tour with Picnic, or Rented Electric Bikes with Picnic.

PRICE: Per person: 1400 euros. Per couple: 2700 euros

If you take option number one, you may want to rent a car. There are many interesting things to explore on your own.

If you wish to stay longer, the region offers a history and culture you will fall in love with. A few ideas: sketch and paint, yoga classes, pottery classes, kayaking, escargot farm… I will send lists of ideas once you have booked your stay and links to the various places and car rentals etc.

HOW YOU GET TO LA CHARITE SUR LOIRE

If you are arriving at Charles de Gualle or Orly airports and rent a car, it will take you anywhere from 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours to drive. There is free parking very close to the house. If you want to take the train, you taxi into Paris to Gare Bercy. This is a 50 euros flat rate. Then you take the 2:11 train direct to La Charite sur Loire. (or you could take the 1:14 train direct to Nevers, rent a car at Europcar, and drive the 20 minutes from there to me). I suggest you purchase the tickets for the train journey when you arrive at the train station. My house is 10 minutes by foot from Gare La Charite sur Loire. Small towns do not have taxis driving about looking for fares So if you wish to be picked up in a car, it will need to be organized in advance.

HOW TO BOOK

Booking now. 50% deposit required upon booking (e - transfer to my bank in Canada) balance due one month before arrival. The deposit is non-refundable but can be used for another visit by you or someone else.
